East Kent Rambling Club has a stable membership, the majority of whom live in the Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable, Isle of Thanet areas with others from Dover, Deal, Folkestone, Ashford, Maidstone, Medway and beyond. The club has a reputation of being a friendly one with new members and visitors welcome. You may join us for up to 3 walks before deciding whether or not to become a member. Just turn up and make your presence known to the leader. The walk descriptions are listed in the ‘Walks Programme’ section of this website, giving a grid reference, post code where feasible and contact details of the walk leader.

Walks are currently held on Wednesdays with normally two walks on offer to choose from.

The longer walk is generally  ten miles in distance with a 10.00 a.m. start time, a lunch break along with a mid-morning ‘water stop’ and afternoon one eg if it is hot or a walker requests one. The walk is usually completed within 5 hours. A shorter walk with a 10.30 a.m. start time and around five miles in distance also takes place, not from the same start point.  The longer walks have a lunch stop arranged at a suitable spot with an occasional pub or tea shop, if available. The leisurely walks also have a mid morning water stop.  They may also have a refreshment stop at the end of the walk, which is determined by the walk leader and the walkers. The programme advises if a picnic lunch is required or if there is the facility to purchase refreshments. Always check the programme or phone the walk leader for more information or if you are unsure about anything.

In addition to the programme of weekly walks the club usually arranges some social events during the year, including an annual meal, and often a walking holiday. In May 2024 a group of Club members enjoyed a holiday in Eastbourne.

While we walk on Wednesdays some of our members also belong to DATROWS (Dover and Thanet Rights of Way Society) who walk on Sundays.  Here is a link to their website – www.datrows.co.uk

Although East Kent Rambling Club is affiliated to the Ramblers Association (RA) it is not one of the RA’s named groups and it is not a requirement for our members to belong to the RA.

We have an annual member subscriptions presently set at £8 which is payable each April. For more information please contact our Membership Secretary by email: ekramblers@gmail.com or see our joining page where there is a membership application form you can download with details of how to pay and where to send it.
